Overview: Freehand deep buttoning eschews excessive measuring and marking of the fabric, rather it is a method that the user works with the fabric intuitively over a stuffing of hair and wadding. Giving a neat and comfortable finish to a traditionally upholstered chair Essential when working on chairs from the Victorian era. In this 2 day course Greg will, upon practice frames, direct students in this method and also offer more advice regarding deep buttoning in general.
Tutor Bio: Greg is an award-winning Master Upholsterer with 35 years of experience. Trained under Master Upholsterer David James, Greg has won the Guild of Traditional upholsterers Challenge cup for traditional Upholstery four times and was awarded the Master Upholder Award in 2019. He runs Cottage Upholstery in Oxfordshire and has taught at Bucks New University, Rycotewood, and The British School of Upholstered Furniture where he is currently director. Greg has worked on projects for the Royal Collection, historic palaces, and National Trust properties, and is currently an upholsterer to the Palace of Westminster.
What to bring:
Students will need to bring 1m of plain upholstery weight fabric. A basic upholstery tool kit will also be required. Students will be emailed a month before the course with requirements.
